The NIKKOR Z 400mm f/4.5 VR S is a super-telephoto prime lens that combines exceptional mobility with long reach, cutting-edge optics, and suitable AF and VR. It is the smallest and lightest 400mm lens that Nikon has ever produced. This versatile lens is ideal for sports or wildlife photographers who are on-the-go and need a handheld setup with a long enough reach to capture images of far-off subjects.
Autofocus and Vibration Reduction
The Stepping motors of NIKKOR Z 400mm are used in the advanced autofocus technology to provide fast and precise focusing performance as well as silent, smooth AF that is ideal for both image and video applications. In order to retain the overall length of the lens during use and to encourage faster focusing speeds, an internal focusing design is adopted, where only the internal lens groups are altered while focusing. Full-time manual focus override is also possible.
Professional Handling and Construction
The tripod foot that comes with the device is readily detachable, contributing to its lightweight and agile design, making it perfect for handheld use. When shooting handheld or using a tripod or monopod, the physical design of NIKKOR Z 400mm directs the center of gravity toward the back of the lens, around the tripod mount, for smoother, more responsive panning. In order to facilitate the transition between shooting in vertical and horizontal orientations, the tripod mount also rotates. The intuitive “no-look” control layout keeps your eyes off the viewfinder by placing all of the frequently used buttons and knobs in convenient places.
